Its a new year, with a new money pit!
After 4 years with my '87 n/a, it left today with its new owner. It was begging me not to sell it this morning. I woke up to it being 10 degrees outside and the parking brake was completley frozen and would not release. I took a short run around the block to try and free it up with no success. Now i was panicking because i was going to be late to pick up Vik. Anyhow i carried up my fathers 110,000 BTU kerosene heather from the basement and aimed it right at the rear of the car, hoping to unfreeze the cable. After about 5 minutes it finally popped free and i was on my way!
Right now Vik is probably somewhere traveling across PA on I-80 west onto its new home in Michigan. Vik left me a deposit last saturday and bought a plain ticket the same day. I had another guy call me a few days later willing to come down from CT with a trailer and give me double the deposit + my asking price to come and pick the car up that same day...but i declined. I picked Vik up from the airport this morning and got us lost on the way back EVEN WITH A GPS unit in the car.... $11 in tolls later i wouldnt of had to pay if i hadnt got lost we made it back to more friendly roads. He took over the controls and liked it..and it was a done deal. He followed me in my 951 to the DMV to pick up his temp tags and started the long 650+ mile ride back home from Long Island, NY to Michigan. I hope he enjoys the car as much as i did.
And so begins the 3rd chapter in my Porsche history. It all started with a slow as heck automatic 924S in high school. Drove that for two years. Bought the '87 back in '04 and got a solid 4 years of trouble free use out of it. And now its a '88 951 which i have been lusting after since high school. 6 years and two Porsche's later i finally got what i wanted! Some of you may recognize this car as the one Tom R. was selling a few months back...yea its the same one .
No good pictures, the car is filthy and its 19 degrees outside right now.
I just need to fix the broken exhaust stud on the #2 cylinder, then its time to start modding . Im going to attempt to remove the exhaust manifold and drill it out with the head still on the car. Worse comes to worse i end up pulling the head and redoing all the vacuum lines, hoses and putting on a MLS headgasket.
The car is lightly modified. Autothority Stage 2 chips, Lindsay Boost Enhancer, Fabspeed test pipe and SFR catback. Koni yellow's front and rear, 968 M030 bars and a few other small things. My first round of mods will be a proper manual boost controller, wastegate and better chips. The guy who did the bulk of the work on this car and whom owned it before Tom R. put some $25k into the car over the 6 years and less than 12k miles he drove it. $105 an hour labor is killer!

Is it broken off flush with the head? If you get teh manifold off and find any nub sticking out of the remainder of the bolt, i bet itll turn right out almost with your fingers. I've broken them and it was always easy to take the stud out. If it's flush, do a reverse drill bit then if that doenst work stick an easy out in. I bet it won't be much work.

Unfortunetley its broken flush with the head. I was going to drill it out with the manifold still on the car, but the flange is rotated slightly and covering the hole. Doh!

Jeremy, the n/a will always have a special place in my heart. Now with the 951 i am going to get my butt handed to me at the local auto-x's because the mods put me into the modified class with the trailered 914-6 race cars! I kept a few of the harder to find parts i had on it in anticipation i will eventually find myself buying another down the line. I also feel like i will never extract the 10/10ths potential out of this car for a long time. Well not without going into a barrier atleast. I felt like i could throw the n/a into a turn without even thinking twice. This car requires a little more respect..

Your title says it all, Jon. Money pit indeed.
I autox my turbo and it certainly does require respect in the corners. Throttle induced oversteer is the best.
You'll probably have to pull the head to remove that stud. Let the "while you're in there" party begin..

Hey Jon,
I'm pleased your car sold quickly and easily. Now the no-holes-barred spend-o-rama on the turbo can begin in earnest!!

seeing your SEG when i threw you the keys at John (wormhole)'s house and the even bigger SEG after you drove it makes me know you are the right owner of this car.
Enjoy it!!!
