as in GPS? I'd be interested in this too. Have been thinking recently of how to mount in an early 944, the disused speaker grill in dash would be a good place to fabricate a nice home?

I've used the Garmin Nuvi - just used the included suction mount to the windshield. Got me home when I went to Georgia to pick up a 951......

I'm using a Garmin 320. It mounts on the windshield and I'll move it from lower center (so Becca can see it too) to lower left (so I can see it easier in the twisties while Becca is holding on and watching the road).

Currently, I don't have a picture available, but I can post one after this weekend. We are off to VIR for an AX and taking the back roads.

Pioneer makes a nice double din unit that fits in the console.

I believe eclipse has a unit that incorporates a tom tom. It is double din as well.

I will use the old fashioned method of high tech 2D navigation (paper) before I stick anything on my windshield.

I keep mine mounted down low at the center of the windshield. Easy to install/remove and it doesn't take my eyes too far off the road to see it.

Leaves marks on the windshield to invite thiefs.

IMHO a windshield mount one is much more useful simply because it's closer to your line of sight. When you're in an area unfamiliar enough to warrant using it... you want your eyes on the road all the more. They also come with the added benefit of being portable to other cars when needed.

The cutout for the heater controls on the early cars is DIN size..haha. If you could live without heat then you could put a double-DIN unit there

Or go crazy and customize a panel to replace the A/C ****/clock/stuff.

I've got a bluetooth GPS receiver that works with my PDA phone. Google Maps for the win! Now I just have to have something to hold the phone so I can drive. :P

It's useful when I don't know where I am.

The Harmon Kardon TP works great in the later 944's. It is a single din size, looks just like a regular radio. The only negative side is the map disc were done in 2002 and they are not going to make any newer ones. The units can be bought from $150 to $250.

I use the nagging wife method of navigation. I sometimes get poor directions like with any other system, but at least I can argue with my system. The down side is that my system argues back.
