explanation for shredded belt? Now with PICS
#16
I doubt it shredded because it was too tight. Too tight howls a good bit, but I cannot see why it'd shred one side.
Are you are talking about the top side or bottom side, or the inside or outside? If it's the top or bottom, I'd suppose you have an idler/tensioner problem or a balance shaft seized up at some point.
What part of the belt, exactly, was bad?
-Joel.

wil do later, waiting for new belt to get here hopefully this afternoon. then zip that sucker on.
the ENTIRE length of belt on the inside (the side that contacts the sprockets) is chewed up.

ok so i just buttoned up the car after installing the new belt.
it looks like i tensioned it wrong a few weeks ago, so that the roller was pushing the belt against the lower sprocket, thereby destroying the belt.
ill post pics in a bit.

Some quick pics I just took.
Happy belt
Not so much
Worn down to the fibers.
You can see where one side of the tooth got scraped and the rubber shavings (really dark stuff) dumped on the other side.
