Default DE on a new timing belt?

I have the opportunity to do a DE on 12/1 and would like to take the 944. The only problem is that the belts were recently replaced and will only have about a thousand miles on them, and I won't have the opportunity to fiddle with the tension just to make sure they're in an appropriate "between new and broken in belt" range.

Will I still be ok or should I just take the Miata?

I say go for it...

They usually just tension up a wee little bit after 1000 miles.

Go for it, there's no "break in" miles on a race car and we don't have any issues!

if you are really nervous you could always inspect it. doesn't take very long, just alot of stuff to move out of the way. im going to check mine (did it like 3 weeks ago) because i tightened my balance belt too much and may have killed one of the idlers (at idle there is a sound like a bad bearing)

guess a few million rpms arent what the pulleys like

Dont see a reason not to. I did two auto-x days on a new belt before the 1500 mile retension.

Track it, then check the tension on it after the event when you get home. That's what I did after I put my new belts and rollers in.

Sounds good, I think I'll go ahead and track it.

I may just make time on Saturday to do it. I'd need to change my oil and brake fluid anyway so I may as well just do inspect the belts and see what the tension looks like. It'll give me a good excuse to drink some beer.

It's a bit of a short notice, but I just can't pass up a free event.

When I did my belt at the beginning of the year, I drove the car down to Road Atlanta for 2 days, then to VIR for 2 more. Drove home and tensioned the belt again. Worked out just fine.

I still think I'm going to check the tension, just for peace of mind. After all, it was my first belt job.

I did the timing belt on the S2 4 days before I left to Rennsport. when I got down there they had about 900 miles on them and after the parade laps at 100MPH they seem fine I just checked the tension a couple of days ago using teh twist method and they are very tight. almost 2500 miles on them. Well get them retensioned here this weekend
