Default Throwout Bearing Guide Tube

Listers,
I have a 1989 944s2 with a new spring center clutch installed last year. I am having trouble getting the car to shift. A mechanic looked under and thinks by looking in the inspection hole that the new throwout bearing gude tube is cracked. This was replaced with all the other clutch components last year. If this is cracked would it make shifting difficult?
I'm very upset right now, I put a great deal of money into the car last year to do a bunch of the "while your in there" type of work. I don't have the money to have this pulled upart and I'm not sure I want to try and pull this apart myself. It may take me a year to get enough money to have this pulled apart. This just plain sucks.
Thanks

Yes.

I had mine break off - leaving a section of the tube rattling around the drive shaft. It: a) made noise; and b) sometime restricted the movement of the clutch pedal (by restricting the movement of the throwout bearing).

B was not good. Imagine stepping on the clutch pedal, but finding it rock solid and leaving you with no way to disengage the gear!

If the clutch was done last year is there any chance the shop that did the work can look at it? Usually a thorough clutch job from a good shop includes the guide tube since they are so cheap. Sounds like you should at least check into it and see if it's covered.

Unfortunately I took the car to the dealership to do the work. I say unfortunately because the parts department is full of idiots, so I provided the clutch kit with all parts, including the tube plus extra parts for additional work. The mechanc who I thought was good turned out to be not so good. He broke the speedometer sensor and while retightening the balance shaft belt he tightened it off one tooth.
Any warranty there would have been is up and there is NO WAY I will take the car back to them. Loks like the car will sit until I can either get money or try this myself.

If it is an actual dealership it should be covered still. Call and complain. I would help if you were close.

Beyond the obvious of a mnufacturing deffect in the tube, what could cause a crack? Is it possible an installation issue caused the crack?

How about starting out simple (and at no cost) and check the clutch pedal adjustment. Maybe it isn't disengaging quite far enough for a smooth shift. I replaced my clutch last Spring and if the pedal is out of adjustment then all kinds of scary thoughts go through your head.

I doubt that it is the pedal adjustment, as I have been driving with no problems for about a year. I will check, thanks for the suggestion.
I am going to contact the dealer that did the work and see if I can get them to cover the labor under some sort of 1 year time limit suggestion.
