Default Water Pump leaks.......

After getting the car running, and enjoying it for two days...........i noticed a puddle of coolant under the car.

After investigating, the timing belt tensioner is a bit damp, and there is some coolant on the timing belt, as well as i can see coolant runing over the oil pump/crank pulley and dripping.

It appears that i have a failed water pump..........

Question is, new or rebuilt? both come with 1 year warranty, and getting a rebuilt pump over new would save $50 (including the core).

I could have sworn that the PO installed a NEW pump..........it survived 5 years and approximately 50,000miles....sounds right?

I've had rebuilt water pumps last the same amount of mileage, 50-60,000 miles.

It's a hit or miss with a rebuilt pump though. There only a very few on Rennlist that have had bad rebuilds. I have never bought a brand new pump in my life time for any of my Porsches.

That sounds about right. Some people go as low as 3 years or 30k. I'm a stickler for new unless I have to buy a rebuilt one.

My rebuilt one leaked like a sieve. Thus, if you have access to a coolant system pressure tester prior to putting all your belts on, well... you save time and energy...

However, my replacement rebuilt one is working fine though...

When they leak, do they leak as i described above? (the timing belt tensioner is damp, but i can see coolant running and dripping on the crank pulley, which sounds about right?).

Note: A new pump from the dealer is over $600, and with a 1 year warranty, where did you get the 2 year warranty info from?
