Default differences between 951 and 944 heads? whoa i didnt kow i could edit this..trippy

are they the same part like the crank or is the 951 head made for more airflow?

...and would a 951 head fit onto an NA motor?

The 951 has sodium filled exhaust valves and ceramic coated exhaust ports. They would bolt right onto each other though- neither one is ported differently from what I understand.

The valves and exhaust ports are more durable against high heat applications like youd run into in forced inductions (especially with a roots blower at higher rpm's)

so it'd be good in avoiding possibly warped heads etc but no power gains.

thank you for the information.

I believe the 951 exhaust ports are slightly smaller due to the ceramic coating.

there is not a ceramic coating - there is a ceramic insert casted into the head when its made. Ports are the same if not bigger. No real advantage to a turbo head on an n/a- sc you could keep from burning valves if you go lean easier.

on a supercharged car, you SHOULD use the 951 head.
That's what its made for.
Just remove the na and staple the 951 right on.
Use the cometic steel and modern turbo torque procedure.

Yes it will.
My 83 came that way. The PO, put a 951 head on it after he busted a stud in the orginal head. I have no idea why he used a 951 head as it would just cost more, but the point is it can be done. There is no benefit from it.

I may be completely wrong, but I thought that the na head was a more 'tunable' head than the 951 because it is easier to port and flow. I don't think much can be done on the exhasut side of the 951 head. Don't a lot of 951's like to use the na head to gain more flow?

well many people go with the 2.7 n/a head and then bore the cyclinders in the block to a 2.7 as well.

Valve springs are different as well, the 951 and 944 has different cam profiles so you need to make sure the valve springs work with your application. ie... the duration of lift and degree can work with the cylinder pressure!
