Default Ever have a half shaft fall off?

Got my car repainted today (came out flippin awesome) but they called and told me I can pick up the car but when they were pulling it out of the booth, it made a 'bang' and they turned it off. Said the shaft had come loose. When I got there and looked, the half shaft bolts had all come out. The half shaft was laying on the exhaust. One bolt broke (the noise they heard) and one of them got a little messed up on the threads. It must have been holding on by the last few threads.
Are these bolts known to just back out on their own?

I put them back in and temporarily put in two new hex-head bolts. I did use a little locktite though.

You must be new here :-) It's a pretty common problem if the axles have been removed. Some say that if you chase the threads and clean them out really well, the bolts will stay put with loctite. Others use safety wire. I was thinking I'd use safety wire star washers and hex heads.

Only into the 944s for a few months now. 3 of them, but all in the last few months. I haven't seen anything about it and tried to search... got tons of bla bla bla. I even read up on Clarks but it didn't mention them just backing out.

Well, thanks. At least I did it right when I put 'er back together.

My shop did that last week with my shift linkage. Car worked perfectly fine for the 500mi I drove over the weekend, yet first thing on monday morning the bolt randomly falls out of the shift linkage at the shop...

Thanks. It really came out great this time. It was painted a few weeks ago and I made a mad dash to meet up with y'all in OC but I wasn't really happy with the job. This time around, they did a real nice job. In a week or two, I'll buff it out.
I just love telling people.. Earl Scheib/$500
(I also like telling hot chicks.. I'm a geek engineer)

Oh, the color is extremely close to the Ocean Blue however at ES, you don't get to choose factory colors. All you get is the color chips hanging on the wall. This one happened to be called Navy Blue. It's far from navy blue, but close enough to Ocean Blue for me.

Yep,
That happend to me twice. Process for best results.

1) new bolts
2) clean the threads in the hole to remove all grease. Q-tips are nice here
3) install bolts with blue loctite. Red is too strong and may make it hard to remove. Blue is what you want as it can be broken loose, but is still enough to hold it in.

BTW... fail to clean the holes and the loctite will not work.

I may be at the auto-x. Have to see. I doubt I'll compete though. Car is way not set up for it. I've got some run-flats on the rear right now that stick like butter and the suspension is pretty worn out original stuff.

M758 - That's pretty much what I did. I sprayed the threads good with brake clean and just used a dab of locktite. I did use red though, just not a lot of it. I've got some new bolts on the way.
Wonder why they didn't extend the bolt through the back of the plate and just use some lock nuts?
I plan on drillng the new bolts and just using safety wire.

I lost the drivers side halfshaft at Mid-Ohio last month I'll check the bolts before every run a Barber this next weekend. I really should drill and wire them, just need to make the time.
