Default Thinking of selling 951

I spun my beloved Stone Metallic 86 -951 when I hit some gravel on a off ramp here in Myrtle Beach, SC. The car still runs etc. It has a 88 engine from a 50,000 mile car, black - very nice black interior, Momo wheel with Porsche crest, dash cap, Alpine stereo etc. I put new clutch, water pump etc, etc when engine installed. Dropped oil pan -- checked bearings -- near perfect - installed new gasket, performed leak down test - checked turbo - everything great.

Installed new engine - ran perfect no issues leaks etc. I had car repainted - installed new rubber seals, gaskets etc. two years ago.

The question is do I repair -- part out or sell as is????

See attached pictures --- Need help.

Thanks,

Chuck

Definately repair it. Don't part it, damage looks to be mostly sheet metal.

Agreed, very minimal structural damage. Probably part of the apron needs to be repaired, the rest looks like sheet metal and I assume from the PS leak maybe a rack or cooler line. Looks very nice.

You'll save more money by fixing it than you would parting it out and having to buy another 951, especially because you'll spend a whole lot more money bringing it up to par with what you have now.

Ah, looks familiar. . .

It looks like no frame damage though, but it will still be $3k+ to have someone repair it properly (blending the pass. door, hood, ect. and shooting clear over it all)

Dad and I have fixed way worse - take your time and fix it, especially if the rest of the car is that nice.....

Yeah man that would be a serious shame to part out, especially after all the work. If there is no frame damage I would definately fix it.

I bought the car back from my insurance co. It now has a Salvage title. If I spend $3 to 4,000 to get it repaired I would have a car with a salvage title -- but not a big deal if I keep it. Where can I get it repaired with out spending a lot of $$$?????

Thanks,

Chuck,

you will have to shop around in your area. some listers might know a reasonable shop around your area, where are you?

I collected as many parts as I could myself rather than have the body shop source them and that saved me a bundle. My bill was $5.5K after all was said and done, but that was with it being put on a frame rack and I had half the car sprayed - some damage to the rear. The P.O never reported it to the insurance, just sold it as a loss and so fortunately mine has a clear title. Doesnt really matter, a well sorted 951 is worth way more than what you can sell it for, ultimately.

Looks like the hood can be saved. Find a strait bumper cover, pass. fender, header panel, pass. light cover, fog light and look for a good shop you trust. You'll be boosting again by Thanksgiving!

Good luck - Love the color

Make me a offer. These days 951 engines are going $3000., trans with oil cooler $800, Sport susp. ?, Working speedo Ha Ha ?
The bad thing is I really liked the car - just replaced the CV's, A/C works great. Even my wife was upset as the car was almost a part of the family - although she used to gripe as I used to spend so much time messing with it - I used to tell her -- I could be sitting in a bar trying to pick up some ugly girl. At least she knew where I was.

I think you should part it, now that she has a salvage title
