Just got my 944 back on the road today. Wheeee!!!!
A tranny swap got done (shredded the old one on a cross-contnental trip this summer) ... I have a few more things in the pipeline (vacuum hose upgrade, throttle cam delete), and some things to fix (if I don't locate the source of the back-of-engine oil leak and stop the hot-air draft into the cockpit I may drive the damn thing off a cliff).
No matter what, though, it's great to have 'er back on the road. O how I love her! I love her the way a heroin junkie loves his smack.

Pretty sure it's from the back. And not from the bottom, either. I'm assuming it's a main rear seal, although I also got a replacement rear cam housing gasket, that cork dealie.
I dread the whole procedure, as I assume I'll have to disconnect the powertrain (hopefully just the torque tube rather than the whole damn tranny) just to access the rear main seal. How the hell I'm supposed to do all that with the engine still in the bay I don't know.
Anyway we'll see! For now I'm just thrilled to be driving again.

Aw dammit. Should've had them do it during the tranny swap.
Ah well. Hopefully it's just the cam housing cover gasket (though I'm thinking not). Maybe I'll rig up some kind of deflection thing to keep the oil from dripping onto the exhaust Y-pipe and causing tons of smoke. It's not actually a huge leak ... if it weren't for the smoke I'd barely even notice it.

i had a leak that hit the same spot... and it was the oil pump.
It's the worst to stop at a light and see light purple smoke coming out of your hood every 2 seconds or so.
I did that one with the engine in.
