Slow (lethagic) Electric Windows
Both the driver's and passenger's windows go up and down, but slowly. I tried putting some lubricant on the regulator but no change. Do the motors degrade over time? I noticed this on other older vehicles as well.
Do I need to replace the motor and regulator?
Regards,
Richard

My right side window goes up 6 inches, down 2, up3, *stops*, down 4, up 7, down 1, and finally up to closing. Passenger window goes up and down great. Consider yourself lucky...

I just noticed the other day that the passenger window was working very slowly from the drivers’ side switches but when I reached over to the switch on the passenger door itself it was working much faster. So I need to pull out the switch on the drivers’ door and clean it.

9 times out of 10 it is your switches.

hey Vaughan, Just figured this out saturday, they ground in the rear hatch area... I pulled my harness out from the rear to the front harness on Saturday and my windows would not move... Ground that set of wires again and presto... The windows move again...

My new 968 had crispy power window switches, the passenger's window only worked once the day I bought the car. The switches were the problem, they are easy to remove, take apart, and clean up with some 1200 paper. I reassembled them with dielectric grease to keep stuff in place while I pressed the switch together. It's easier if you mark the switch body so it goes back together the same way it came apart, they are easily reversed.
Power seat switches are have the same problem and the same fix, but the little ball bearings in those seat switches like to jump out when you pop them apart.

Shooting some silicon lube into the window tracks helps speed up the windows as well. My window speed was pretty average (perhaps even better) for a 944, but anemic when compared to a modern car. Cleaning the ground helped somewhat, but shooting silicon spray in the window tracks helped quite a bit more. They still aren't as fast or healthy sounding as my wife's Acura RL, but are much better than most 20 yo cars.
