Default XP: Lic Plate Lights

What have you all done about LP lights? I need em for my "safety inspection".

What's the story with the rear panel, why does everyone keep taking it off????

May have to see what it looks like off with my paint, I thought it was neat looking on! Even though it's kinda warped....

What about the holes when u take it off? Saw the Bumperplugs.com post below.....

When i took mine off it left 4 relativly large holes. The paint underneath was fine so i really didnt care. Plus in MA the plate needs to be right under the LP lights so i was kinda forced to take it off. Once i took my middle bar off i then replace the LP lights by unscrewing them and plugging in the new ones.

I think a better question would be:
What's the story with the rear panel, why does everyone keep putting it on?

They are the 80's equivalent to altezza taillights and LED windshield washer squirters.
There is a reason Porsche didn't put them on they are fugly and they screw up the back of the car!

I hate to quote myself but.........

You probably think that NASCAR is racing too!
Sorry, I saw you were from Mooresville and had to give you a jab. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and you already heard mine.

There are these special license plate frames which have lights in the top part. You have to connect some wires for them, but it allows you to relocate the plate to wherever you want.

However, the only place to put the plate on a 944 with the light panel is on the bumper between the black pads. Any special license plate frame with lights is going to be thick and protrude beyond the rubber pads. That frame will crack apart within 1 month. If your state requires license plate lights (don't all 50?) then using the rear light panel should be considered risky.

Oh yeah, it's nasty.

So the light panel between the tail lights was an option? For some reason I thought they all had it at one point and everyone took em off....

Oh yeah, I may be in NASCAR country, but I was working for a Grand Am team, not a stock car team....

The taillight panels were not an option, Porsche never made them. They are all aftermarket pieces, that's why they don't match well.

I have one on my car. I don't know if I like it or not. A long time Porsche mechanic said that it is near impossible to get the little lights for the license plate frame that goes onto the bumper.

I'm in NC too, and the rear of my 944 is the same as yours. Lower mounted license plate and no light.

Not once have I been questioned about the non-lighted plate. If I ever am questioned about it, I'll explain that there is no light to light the plate. The car is exempt.

FWIW, I have my cars inspected at the local garage, not a quickie oil change place.
