Default X-POST: FS 944 Schnell Short Shift Kit

This a 'new' used Schnell short shift kit. It was on my car for maybe 50 miles. It comes with everything the original kit came with (the SSK, harness pads, and instructions).

I'm asking $85 plus shipping for Rennlist members.

Thanks!

Don't you have to take the tranny out to install that kit?

Just the LR wheel to access the linkage, I had to use a small gear puller to slide the old linkage off the tranny FWIW. Not everybody likes the Schnell, it's very short, but once the tranny fluid is warm I really like it.

I have the Lindsay stick installed but it still has a lot of slop in the linkage. I've been eyeballing this kit but didn't want to bother with taking the damn tranny out again.

You don't have to pull the tranny to install a short shifter. It is quite simple.

The slop may be due to a a worn shift rod. This happened to my 1984. I had to replace the damned thing.

The reason I'm selling is for a few reasons. I bought this from Karl not too long ago in brand new shape. Put it on and it was awesome at first. Man, 2nd to 3rd was my favorite gear change ever. I absolutely LOVE the throw. However, It was hard to engage 5th/reverse. Now, I'm sure this is just a matter of playing with the linkage, but I went to pull the car out one day to go to my muffler shop, and all I had was 3rd and 4th gear! Don't ask how it lost the others. I blue loc-tite'd everything and put it on per instructions. I messed with it twice trying to adjust it, and still had 3rd and 4th. I went inside, and grabbed the factory shifter.

I'll be honest, the Schnell is a nice piece if you're looking for short throws that also feel notchy and 'hard'. The stock unit is a nice piece if you're looking for longer throws that also feel perfectly smooth. I loved the stock shifter so much, that I decided to keep it. I'm losing some money on this no doubt, but you live and learn.

Also, Karl is right...you don't have to remove the trans to install. Just be very good with your hands in spots you can't see lol. You'll have to remove the heat shield above the exhaust, but it's really not that hard.
