Just to toss another possibility out there...how do your transmission mounts look?

Plus, if it just started after the shop did an alignment, check to be sure the nuts/bolts they touched are tight.

lol my car was on jackstands for a long time while I replaced the motor mounts and oil pan gasket / tbelt so I don't want to really work on it anymore.

plus there are so many things that could be causing the clunk don't think I'll find it easily so I'll just take it to the porsche shop (weissach in vancouver) in a month or two and have it looked at.

hope it's not the clutch, the CVs probably aren't too hard to replace and the transmission doesn't look to bad either but if I need a new clutch or torque tube then I'm screwed I'd have to pay a shop for that.

it's weird today the clunking was totally gone and then on the way home it started again.

depending on how I give it gas when engaging the clutch the clunk might come or not.

the previous owner when I bought it last year told me the clutch was changed with a new sachs clutch kit but he din't have any receipt to show me and he had receipts for everything else he had done like the tbelt he had replaced a few years ago.

also the car has 245,000 kms or more so I doubt it is the original clutch but who knows.

what are teh symptoms of a bad rubber centre clutch or a bad clutch?

I don't see any problems shifting to any gear or accelerating just the clunk when teh clutch engages in first.

so I guess it could be

- transmission mounts
-cvs
-clutch
-transmission?

I'm just trying to see what is most likely causing this.

for now I need to drive the car to work and school as I just sold my work beater and insured the 944.

other than the clunk that comes and goes it runs and drives great lol.

I've just pulled the rubber centred cluch and if the clunk is coming from there you will also have a noticable slack in the driveline. I think its rear pads. Find a deserted area and reverse and brake really hard. Then carry on and see if the clunk is gone.

Step 1 - Open car door
Step 2 - Get down on your hands and knees
Step 3 - Look under drivers seat
Step 4 - Fish hand underneath drivers seat
Step 5 - Remove empty bottle of scotch from under seat
Step 6 - Go to store and buy another bottle of scotch

:-)
