Default Newer waterpump makes noise when turned by hand please read and advise!

On the recently built but blown engine I pulled the waterpump off to use on my new engine (looks 90% new hardly any discoloration has abuild date of march 01) makes a slight noise like the impeller is rubbing against the housing.

The old waterpump off of the replacement engine was made in jan 85 and spins without noise.

Do you guys think the newer waterpump is toast or would it not be an issue?

thanks
mike

A few years ago I bought a 'rebuilt' water pump, my old one was the updated version in very nice shape and the rebuilt one just looked like crap so I put the old one back in, no problems.

I have a new one on my car and it sounds like a supercharger... yeah, it's that loud. This is the first one of the updated design I've put on that car though.

I haven't had any issues with it, but I haven't driven it more than about 500 miles either. I had a shop do the work, and they didn't seem to think anything of it. I had a slight sound with the old one as well (it had about 60K on it) and that one was fine too.

I don't think you should hear a scraping> Pretty sure mine didn't. I'd send it back, or check if one of the impeller blades are scraping and bend it.. I don't know, I'm kind of leary of that...
