I'm replacing my oil pump, and I need to take the crank pulley off. I have the flywheel lock in and the first two parts of it off (ac and power steering belt pulley part), But how do I get the next two off? (Where the balance belt and timing belt go around). On clarks it says something about a woodruff key? someone help, I wanna get this done!

I took my crank pulley off after i took off all my timing and balance shaft belts, rollers, tensioners and etc. I then unfastened the rear belt cover and slid a screwdriver behind it to push from behind the pulley off. It came off really easily. Hope this helps.

I basically pulled the rest of the gears off with my hand, most say to use a gear puller, but I don't own one lol and mine weren't on too tight.

You are supposed to use a gear puller. They cost a little less than $20 and can be bought at any car parts store.

ha, nvm, its nice having a dad around that is more mechanically capable than me. Thanks though!

got it off, just had to be patient and use wd-40

You really should be using a gear puller on that. Side-loading by prying from behind can leave gouges in the shaft. This comment is obviously not limited to the crank pulley.

two questions

- why are you replacing the oil pump? They have almost nothing inside that wears or makes contact, ive never seen one go bad- why are you replacing it???

- have you taken out the 24mm crank bolt yet? Once that is out they should wiggle right off.

It was diagnosed at a porsche shop as going out, and it had a leak around the seal, so I just made sure it was all sealed up nicely and put a used one in good condition in. It's all on now, should work out well......I hope...

how did they diagnose the oil pump going out? Low oil pressure- prob have a cracked pick up tube more likely.

FR your crank looks nice and clean... mine is on the filthy and leaky side. (seal getting replaced!)

Haha, that's his cam, not his crank.

Man, I tryed side cutters on the woodruff key on my cam gear...talk about impossible. I gave up, I didn't absolutely need it out to do the job.

Why did you go with a used oil pump? Seems like something you'd want to put new since it's kind of a PITA to do, if it ever "goes out" again. Kind of like using "used, but good condition" rod bearings. It just doesn't make sense...

ha, well its on, and I accomplished a number of things including oil pump, timing belt, balance belt, and camshaft chain tensioner. Just waiting for my oil filter to come tomorrow morning and start it up! I havent had it all summer =)

edit: Oil pump only costed me $25 so whatever, cant hurt to replace it.....
