Default Ground for gauges

Does anyone know where the ground is for the temp gauge on an 87 ? The gauge itself pegs to full hot unless the hit the glass a few times.

There's at least one ground in the driver's side footwell, but if it works when you tap the glass I doubt a ground is the problem ... presumably a bad ground would just not let the gauge work at all.

Anyone know where exactly under the footwell ??? Maybe I should just pull the gauge and replace it.

There are multiple grounds in the driver's side footwell. The early cars have the fuse box down there and wiring in the way, but the grounds should be really visible in a late car. They should be pretty easy to find, but if not, search for a thread about pictures of the grounds because there was one a few months ago.

I cleaned every ground I could find. Only one I havent done
yet is passenger side frame by headlight.

My temp gauge reads high. My fuel gauge reads 1/2 tank
high. Nothing I have done so far has affected the reading.
I've even removed the gauge cluster and cleaned all the contacts there.

I discovered this yesterday...turn car off. Turn key to
RUN position and press A/C button with engine not running.
You hear clutch engage on the A/C, but my fuel gauge goes
from empty to a little more than 1/4 tank and the red overheat
light comes on. Turn A/C off, light goes out, fuel gauge goes to
empty.

Gonna have to study these wiring diagrams and see what is
going on.

I dont mean to sound like a complete idiot, but cleaning the grounds is just taking some sandpaper over them right ?

I used a wire brush to clean them then put some electrical grease (magic in a can) on.

Take the bolt out. Scrape it with a wire brush. Lightly scuff the ground the bolt goes into (if needed). Apply electrical grease to the threading and wire connector. Put the bolt back in. Repeat process for all the other grounds, especially the headlights.
