Default Rear Torsion Bar Eccentric Bolt.

Where is it (a picture would be helpful) and which way would you turn it if you wanted to drop the rear about a half an inch (if I have that much to play with)? My car sits a little high in the back. Also, what is the size of the bolt? Thank you. Michael

It's the bolt that is further away from the torsion bar cap (or, in this pic, the right bolt).

It will either turn one way or the other, as is the nature with cams and eccentric bolts... meaning, as you rotate it (either clockwise or counter-clockwise) it will first move one direction and then the other - and then back to the first direction. Asking which way to turn it is like asking which way to turn the crank shaft to get to TDC.

Seriously, though, there's no magic way to describe how much to turn it. My advice is to use paint or a marker to show the relationship of the the two plates (both pivot around the same axis - the torsion bar - but the outer plate, with the cap attached, is actually connected to the torsion bar via the splines. The inner, longer plate will move relative to the first to change that ride height). Then make a small adgustment and check your progress.

BTW, this will affect your corner balance -- you should do this with a set of scales so you can make sure your cross weights are correct, otherwise one diagonal will carry more weight than the other, and will adversely affect your handling.

Thanks Van. Exactly the info I needed. I need to align (and corner balance) the car anyway. I really appreciate it. Michael

Those nuts are INCREDIBALLY hard to loosen.I had to cut them off mine then replace them with new ones. Tried a long breaker bar, PB Blaster, heat, impact wrench. Got almost an inch lower out off mine (took them all the way down) Get a good four wheel alignment when your done.

Do you do this with the suspension loaded or with the wheels in the air?

Actually, i got them both loose easily.

The nuts on both bolts are 24mm, the mounting bolt is 24mm and the eccentric bolt is 36mm.

trust me, get a 32/36mm open end wrench to make it slid in easily.

Van, if I bottom out both eccentric bolts (to get max drop in rear), how out of balance can the corner balance be? Currently my rear is about 2" higher than the front. Rear suspension is stock minus swaybar, riding 225/60/15 tires, front has 200# lowering springs (~1-1.25") and 225/50 tires.

I am replacing the front tires with 215/60 soon which will raise the nose about 5/8". If I drop the rear all the way it will be (depending who you ask) 1/2-3/4". This will make the difference F/R 7/8"-5/8"overall, depending on the actual rear drop, respectively. I wouldn't have an issue getting a rear alignment but want to make sure it's actually necessary.
