I may have found a 951 Project need some advice. My dad works for a parts store and travels around to different garages. Today he ran across an guards red 86 944 Turbo. It was in the back of the shop pretty much abandoned. The head is pulled off of it and it has a for sale sign in it. How much should I offer ????

need more information than that! mileage overall condition? how long has it been sitting? remember, if it has been sitting a long time, you could end up with alot of work. bad gas, cleaning out lines, brake system problems...etc

Start low, $500 or less. Owner will probably come back with, "Well, I was thinking more of $xxxx" and will start giving info about what's good in the car, and you will probably end up with something in between.
Good luck!

I'd be very careful to make sure a) what's wrong with it and especially b) how long it's been sitting there. You could be getting yourself into a real world of hurt.
However if the damage isn't too bad I'd definitely grab it!

very true. for all you know, the motor is blown and the turbine needs to be rebuilt. also, the clutch could be bad, the tranny could grind. I always assume the worst on cars I cant drive

I have been pricing these cars for a year out her in So Cal. Any think more then a 1K and it is a rip off. If you can't turn the motor over and check the rest out consider a complete restore on the car so 1K is the most I would pay.

I agree that It's worth no more than $1K. I'd only give what you could expect to get parting out (assuming you couldn't sell the engine).

yup. sight unseen I would give 1k. unless it had special options. If it has LSD, I would pay $1500 for, any uber rare special leather items inside, add another 100 or 200, a few hundred more for fuchs, etc. . .
In the condition you are describing, it is a parts car- NOT a project. These cars can be had way too cheap to sink THOUSANDS into them bringing them back to life. Part it out-- make 4k on it and then go buy a nice 5k 951. or pay 1500 for this one, spend 6000 on it (they eat money FASTER than you can imagine !!) and still have a junker. . .

regardless of options, such as LSD, if its been sitting for a while with the head off your gonna be in for a lot of work.
All fluids, check for nests in the engine, timign belt, balance belt... all the usual.
I'd offer $500 and go from there. You're the one picking up the hasel and you're the one freeing up space for him. $500 and go from there.
