Default So I think I hold a record or something!

My clutch recently went out so I took out the CV joints, the tranny the powershaft and finally got to the goods. As I was taking stuff apart I noticed that alot of stuff looked like it had never been touched. I get in to the clutch and it is a rubber centered one. My jaw just dropped! My car has over 200,000 miles on it. Do rubber center clutches last that long?

I believe there are 300k cars with original clutch around. Not typical at all, but it happens.

of course- you can still buy a rubber center clutch- so if it was replaced w/ a factory rubber style- that would account for the milage....

I did my clutch at 195K, Clutch lining was fine but the rubber had failed.

If the POs were all very good at shifting and took care of their car then I dont see why it couldnt last that long..

1986 with 129,000 miles. Still has the original clutch and oil cooler seals. Probably shouldn't have posted this guaranteeing one or both of them will go in the next month! Cheers,

Eric

My car was made in 2/83, has 145k miles, and I'm pretty sure the clutch hasn't been replaced. It must be one of the 10 oldest 944s out there with the original clutch.

Mine went out (on my old N/A) at 170Kish. Only the rubber, the rest of the clutch was fine. I had all the records on that car and it was the first clutch problem.

Yeah thats pretty rare but a 951 with the same mileage on the original clutch is even more so.

wow, I still feel pretty special. I think it finally went out because I dumped it a couple times. When I first got the car I had to see how fast it was. then about 2 weeks later I dropped a gear to pass someone and halfway through the pass the car slipped and hesitated, but I still made it by. It was up on the lift as soon as I got home.
