That's pretty much what stopped me from attempting to make one, the unequal length of the factory runners. There was a guy selling a bunch of mandrel bent aluminum tubes with the exact same diameter as the factory runners where it meets the head, and had I bought those, I would have made my own. The factory manifold also tapers down from the plenum to the head as well, so not only are you dealing with unequal length, but also difference in port size and thus increase in restriction and unequal air flow.

why would you want this to end up being re-sold if it has been proven to be far worse than the stock intake? disclaimer or not, inferior (as compared to stock) products have no place in the aftermarket performance mod world.

The taper is there to increase the velocity of the air going into the head

With a short runner manifold, the velocity isn't as much of an issue.

wouldn't shorter runners increase turbulence?
