Default Is there any special tool needed for changing a porsche engine out

Ok my 87 porsche 5 speed has everything in it. I'm removing the engine and putting in an 85.5 engine out of a 85.5 automatic. What all will i need from the 85.5 automatic so it can work in my 87 5 speed ? Such as will need the dme, wire harness, release bearing(for the clutch), flywheel, pilot bearing and or electronics or is it just a engine swap everything but the engine is fine in my 87 but will i need anything from the 85.5 automatic ? Help !!!!!!

pull the dme and fish the harness through the firewall on the ps. This way you dont have to disconnect any wiring from the motor. Put the new motor in, put the harness back through the hole-easiest to do before motor is entirely in the car like down a few inches- and wala- done.

yeah you'll need all the clutch stuff- leave the ref sensors in and swap the hole housing and pressure plate etc...

Ok if the engine is the engine then why can I not just swap them out ? I'm a little lost. Will not my electronics plug right in if all the engine stuff is the same ?

You WON"T need anything except a new pilot bearing which you should do anyway. Take the engine out.. either with the bellhousing or leave the bellhousingattached to the torque tube and just take the engine. Take all your stuff, the fuel rail, etc, tie your wiring harness back near the battery or somethign just to hold it out of the way, put the new engine in wiht all of your accesories and hook it all back up.

Please, create ONE engine thread and you can put all your turmoils and questions in there and people will follow.

This is like the 30th engine thread you've made.

if one engine has a harness attached- injectors, sensors etc... and the other has a harness- you will save alot of trouble and time by just leaving the harness on the engine and pulling it from the firewall. You need a pilot bearing to hold the torque tube straight or youll kill the clutch etc...

Just the engine. You don't need any of the auto parts.
1 Use your existing DME and wiring harnes.(5spd)
2 use your existing pilot bearing, and everything in and including your clutch housing.(5spd)
You should need nothing from the automatic but the engine....
No special tools needed. It is however easier to drop the engine out the bottom than to take it out the top.
