Can a 944 really be that bad?

Did the 968 loose some of the earlier 944's poise with it's weight gain and extra comfort? Seems like there are few coupes advertised and I prefer it to the 'vert. I like the styling of the 968 but a quick search seems like it may not make it very well into my budget.
