Default Greetings (thanks Judd :D)

Hello Folks,

Just wanted to say hi to the Porsche 944 12-step Support Group (and thanks to Judd for giving me the link).

I've been drooling over Porsches since I could drive and now at my middle age crisis I can actually afford one. I'm in the market for a '87 or newer Turbo. And, like anyone else, I'm looking to get the most for my $$$ I've checked Cars as well as Carsoup and eBay. If anyone has any other recommendations, I'm all ears.

Cheers,

Rick Beddoe

Check out Tom R. 's turbo here on rennlist.. it's a very well sorted through car, he's asking 8500 i believe, maybe less. IT will be worth your money and then some.

And if nothing else, rennlist will be saved from another 20 for sale threads from him.

Why do you want an 87+ car, out of curiosity. If you are not looking for an S spec car, I would look into any clean car not just 87+. There are some very good advantages to 86 cars, just my opinion.
BTW, welcome and good luck.

my bad...I meant '86.

In fact, the thought of a 944 n/a is crossing my mind as well (85.5 or newer). I need to know more about tuning potential on these cars. My impression is that there's a lot of room to incrementally improve their performance.

Appearance-wise, the turbo (and S2) body has to be one of the best looking cars ever designed. Porsche really has a knack for coming up with some timeless designs.

With that said, I'm assuming there are body kits for the 944 n/a.

Rick, there is not much you can do to the n/a power wise. as far as body kits you can put the turbo body parts on the car (like I did with my 944) but you will still be missing the extra 100hp and susp. brakes, etc. I wish I got a turbo from the start but insurance is not any cheaper with "Turbo" as the model name on your policy!

Hi, Rick!

The first step is admitting you have a problem...

My wife: "Honey, I think you have a car problem."

Me: "Boy, you're telling me.
We need a second garage, probably 3 or 4 bays, with one bay having a taller roof area for a lift. There are 3 or 4 cars I want to buy, including Tom R.'s 951 and 944S2, and we don't have room enough now! Plus, I need some new tools..."

Welcome to Rennlist! It wouldn't hurt to put your location in your signature. The 924/944/951/968 are great cars - I absolutely agree on the timelessness of the design. Research thoroughly, get the best example you can afford (or risk being nickle and dimed for lot so money in parts and shipping) - and know that routine preventative maintenance can be a little more than other cars, but is really, really expensive if you skimp on it... it's one of those penny-wise, pound-foolish deals.

Thanks Jack. I'm all good now. I feel much better knowing there are others with this affliction.

My wife is out of town with the rest of my family for two weeks. That means I have two weeks to contemplate the phrase: "It is better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission".

Quick Reply: Greetings (thanks Judd :D)
