Default So I'm dumb... (cleaning carpet in car)

Had a great morning, right up until I spilled my coffee on myself and my car. Was able to soak up most of it but I'm sure there is still quite a bit in some of the carpet around the shifter and the floormat. Best way to get it out? I don't own a pressure washer. Floormats are 2-week-old Lloyd mats, too.

All things considered, it's not that bad. Just frustrating.

Wet/dry vac. - extract as much as possible, then you need to start getting some cleaning solution on it.

And then you need to get all of that back out.

Try the smallest attachment you have you your shop vac or similar if you don't have a carpet cleaner.

I don't know if you want to spend the money on one but I actually have a mini steam cleaner that is made for spills around the house. It works perfect on car interiors since it uses a hose and fits into tight little corners.
If not then I would definately use a wet/dry vac and get some kind of upholstery cleaner.

Water and a scrubby brush work, too? I will get some carpet cleaner-type stuff and break out the shop vac.

I have this house carpet cleaner stuff called "Folex", comes in a white spray bottle. Worked wonders to clean up 5 year old coke stains from the PO.

I'm personally worried about the carpet insert that surrounds the shift boot area. Anyone know where to find new ones for an EARLY 944 if I mess this one up?

LOL, I did the exact same thing in my 951. Dumped a full 24oz cup of coffee in the passenger seat. It puddled under the front seat and the rear floorboard. I pulled out the seat, sucked as much of it up as I could with a shop vac, and steam cleaned it six or seven times. I also had to pull up some of the carpet and use 409 on the floorboard because it soaked trhough the carpet as well.

The good news is I did get it all out but I don't think I was ever as pissed as I was when the cup fell over into my seat.........IIRC, my wife got my kids into the house before the first grouping of choice words made it past my lips but it wasn't pretty.

There are 3 or 4 coffee stains under the passenger seat of my mom's '84. Luckily the black leather seat hides its stains well, but the linen carpet doesn't.

According to your sig, your interior is black. The coffee still shows? If you mess it up too bad, you can get one off a parts car of course, or you can have an upholstery shop make you one (it should be cheap), or you can make it yourself (it should be easy). I don't know of a bulk source for it though

Oh yeah, and go get one of these (or similar):

Can I see it? Not really. Am I pulling a Lady Macbeth? Absolutely.

Pull out the mats, put them in a bathtub and and using warm water scrub them with a brush and carpet shampoo. Rinse periodically. I did this with my mats and rear carpet it works great.

Man, There's no cup holders for a reason! j/k

I'd take the bath tub idea - especially if you have a sprayer for the shower - that seems like that and VERY HOT water with some woolite would work great

I'll have to try hot water and a splash of woolite and a scrubby brush. The carpet between the seat and shifter console is crunchy now that it's dried!

Forget the watered-down crap found in stores and buy what the professional carpet and upholstery cleaners use. Look in the YellowPages under "janitorial supplies". Buy a quart of tannin remover. Follow the directions on the bottle.

Woolite: one part woolite, six parts water (pref. distilled) in a spray bottle. Works great on carpet, vinyl, plastic. I also like Prestone foaming auto carpet cleaner. Comes in a spray can with bristle scrub-brush on top of can.
For big time stains, try "Spot Shot" cleaner. Can get it at Walmart and most stores. Test a small area first to make sure it doesn't discolor. I haven't had too many stains that this stuff won't get out. Spray on then blot away with white cotton terry cloth.
