i have an 05 F150- tows great, especially now that i hooked up my electric brakes! There was a guy at the last DE i went to towing an enclosed trailer w/ a new explorer. He said the auto 6spd is better for towing than the 4 speed in my truck, less downshifting and taching it out to get up big hills and such. I could see that, but my truck does pretty well for having the 4.6 w/ the tow package.

Not sure about the towing capasity but I think a Cherokee sport with the in-line 6 cylander could handle it. But I purchased a 2000 cherokee sport and find it a good every day driver and reliable so far. As far as gas milage with the manual which i ahve i get 21-23 mpg on every tank which I think is not a bad condiering its a SUV.

Get yourself one of those new Toyota Tundras with the 5.7l V8, the 5.7l 4x4 long bed has 10,500lbs towing capacity with an avg of 14/18mpg while the 4x2 has 10,800lbs of towing capacity with an avg of 16/20mpg. Plenty enough to tow your car.
