Default !#@$%@#**@@ !!!!!!

Well,

I woke up today, ate breakfast and headed out to my baby for a joyfull ride to work.

I hopped in, plugged in the iPod and started the car up. Here comes the bad news...

The oil pressure gauge stayed at around 1-1.5 BAR and the light was on, on top of that ALL of my warning lights were on! My brake sensor lights, even though they are disconnected, my low brake fluid light was on but its full too.

It was fine when I parked it last night when I came home from work, but when I started it this morning I heard the awfull sound of dry lifters and lots of taping. NO ROD KNOCK that I could tell. The car ran all of 30 seconds before I shut her down and felt like crying.

The oil was golden as it should be. All the fluids are perfect and full...

I wanna jump off a building or walk infront of a bus.

My guess is a spun bearing (most likely the common #2)... could probably be the oil pick-up tube because my balance belt is off a tooth or two.

I was supposed to go back to my home state this weekend to see a friend who gets back from the Navy. Now I can't go.

Worst day EVER!

Sounds more like an electrical failure. All the warning lights coming on including the disconnected brake sensor may point to a problem with the ignition switch. Try cycling the switch on and off rapidly a few times.

But I could hear that there was no oil reachign the lifters. It was very loud and distinct. I had my spotter buddy (Veteran Mechanic) there with me and he said the same thing... no oil reaching the top end.

All the gauges work, the oil gauge even flinched a little as it was running for the (what seemed like forever) few seconds.

We did not rule out electrical... but no oil too?

Check and make sure (make sure ) that the crank pully hasn't come a little loose. 300+ft/lbs

I can check that tonight when I get home. How lose would it have to get for the oil pump to stop working?

at an idle, 1 bar of oil pressure is ok- not ideal but ok- wont kill the motor. Sounds like an electrical problem- did you rev the engine at all and see if the oil pressure goes up? Bad check valve in the oil filter could let the oil drain back into the bottom end and make the lifters click- or the check valve in the head actually.

You could pop open one of the bolt covers on the camhousing and pour oil in the top

Um... I don't know if I would be comfortable driving 350 miles with 1 bar of pressure because it did not move when I tapped the gas.

Check valve in the head? I did not know there was one. That means it went bad over night?

I'm gonna look into this more over the weekend as I have my other car I can drive. I'm gonna look at all the electrical components and then dive into the motor.

These are all helpful suggestions, guys. Thank you all so much.

+1 on the crank pulley. When my crank bolt fell out, oil pressure, alternator, and as a result ! lights all came on. Luckily, I was pulling into my parking space at the time, no damage.

Yea, if you really want to mess your motor up, try and torque the crank bolt to 300+ ft/lbs (which your more then likely are not strong enough to do). *rolling eyes*

I wouldn't put it pass me... they stop pacemakers...

Anyway, I'm gonna check that crank bolt. The alternator voltage was bouncing and has always bounced for some time now. I thought it was the belt coming loose, I would tension it but ti would only fix it for a drive home from work. The crank pully coming loose could explain all this.

I've read it (using the handy-dandy search) on the forum that this happened before to a few others.

This will be the first thing I inspect. To any of you who have had this crank pull problem happen, was it obvious the bolt was coming loose? I didn't see anything out of the ordinary when i was looking under the hood this morning...

Thanks again guys.

+2 on the crank pulley now that i think of it. The loose bolt would drop oil pressure, the pulley not turning would throw a generator/ battery light. I didnt say drive on 1bar oil pressure, i said that idling at 1 bar will not spin a rod bearing.

Dan meant the check valve in the oil filter.
