Dan, I re-read my reponse to you and I think I sound like a jerk and for that I am sorry. I woke up to a horrible day.

I'm still at work and should be outta here by 5:30EST at the latest. I will be going to the DMV/RMV to get my other car registered so i can use that for a while until I sort out the Porsche. I have a long trip ahead of me tonight and I will look at the car when I get back.

Thanks!!!!

-John

Including me!

If I could read better, I would have noticed that Dan said exactly that in his post

Yeah - no worries, dude.
It was cooler here in the northeast this morning when you started your car - the additional viscosity of the oil pushed a crank bolt that was a little too loose over the edge.
Get a 24mm deep socket, a 1/2 inch breaker bar and a 6 foot piece of that black steel pipe they sell at Home Depot for more torque.
You'll do it with one hand.

I wouldn't just crank the bolt down with a bar and no torque wrench. I'm sure the bolt won't break, strip, or crack the crank...but no one wants to ever find out.

Get a nice half inch torque wrench and that 24mm socket...and set it to the factory specified 155 ft/lbs.

As much as I love Arnnworx tools (and own the set), why bother?

5th gear + parking brake + wheel chock. Torque and done.

Not to nit-pick... but it's 1st gear or reverse that you want. They have the best ratios.

That said, get a friend inside stepping on the brakes, sometimes the parking brake is less than reliable.

Yeah...that makes more sense and is hardly a nit-pick. I don't know what I was thinking when I posted that.

Fortunately, it's not a procedure I need all that much

Don’t give up so easily, you were thinking the right thing, 5th gear is the right one to use.

The gear ratios are torque multipliers, so 1st (and reverse) gear will multiply by 3.5 * 3.375 (differential) = 11.8 and 5th gear by 0.829 * 3.375 = 2.8, meaning that the 150 ft-lb tightening torque will be 1770 ft-lb and 420 ft-lb in 1st and 5th gear respectively at the wheels.

The handbrake may have a little difficulty with the 1770 ft-lb at the wheels.

I'm home safe and sound...

Tonight I'll put the 24mm deep socket on, set me torque wrench to 155ft/lbs and see where that takes me. I'll also prime the pump with oil.

Next step is to pull the dme fuse or fuel pump relay and crank for about 15 seconds to prime it all up and then try starting the car.

I'll update later tonight with the results.

Thank you all for your help.

Lost my crank pulley on the freeway and shreaded the balance shaft belt and woodruff key. I dodged a huge bullet and still had a very well intact timing belt.
