Water temperature gauge
I do not trust the water temp gauge in my 1983 944. Dances around, seems to show higher temps than I feel is correct.
I'd like to fit a capillary thermometer to be sure of an accurate reading, where would I drill the hole for the bulb, or does anyone have a more modern solution?
Mike

Have you cleaned the grounds on the back? My 83 used to always range up and down until I did the 6-blade fan conversion and cleaned the contacts...never jumped again or acted like it would overheat.

The early na's temp sender doesn't read water temp. Its in a dry hole just reading block temp. So if your looking for accurate temp drilling is your only option. I drilled the factory hole into water. If you want to keep your stock gauge. Drill the boss behind the stock sender.

There are some handheld infrared sensors that will measure temperature of any object. Just point and measure. I've never tried one, but maybe someone here has and can remark on their accuracy.

The 6 blade fans made a big difference? I have a line on a set used with shrouds for $300.00. Grounds at the back?
At the back of the gauge? I'll check in Clark's. I think I have a ground problem with the temp gauge as I have to slap the pod in the morning to get the temp gauge and economy whatzit going. Thanks for the tips, fellas,
Mike

PS - I have a brand new, never installed OE block sender (gauge). You can have it for shipping. I no longer need it since I do not run stock gauges. Michael

If you have to slap the dash your grounds or connectors need cleaning...BMW E30's are even worse about contact resistance than the early 944's if you can believe it.
I paid $75 bucks for one set + shroud and gave another set to a local Rennlist member. I am sure someone on the list can step up for better than you're planning on paying.
