Default Need spacer/offset help

I have an 86 944 that I use mostly for track duty. I have a set of cookies that I put my track tires on and a set of phones for the road wheels (which are almost never on during track season). I want to fill the wheel wells a little more with the cookies for track duty. Can I use spacers? I assume I have the early offsets since it's an early car. What are my options? I don't think the phonies are any wider... I'm using 15 x 7 wheels with 225 50 r 15 rubber.

tks

Steve,

You might search the archives a bit, but, I think most folks here would be hesitant to run spacers on a track car. How much "space" are you trying to make up in your wheel wells? Spacers are not recommended for track applications due to the additional loads they place on suspension components. While it may not be the cheapest route, it would be safer, and simpler, to upgrade to wider 8" or 9" wheels [fuchs or phone dials].

That's fine too. I have an early car. I know there's all these different offsets/wheel combinations. Fuchs are too expensive...what phonies should I look for that will directly bolt up? Can I run 8"s in the front? I like to swap all 4 wheels around as the tires wear.

You can run 8" all the way around. I think that '86 turbo had 16x8s on the rears. You can run spacers but you need to get longer studs and steel nuts. I run 8"s on my 924S track car and use spacers for some of the different wheels that I use. What you don't want to use is hub or wheel adapters that change the bolt pattern.

you can run a 6mm slip on all the way around if you have enough threads on the stud to go all the way past the threads on the lugs. Factory early cars (some) ran a larger spacer than that from the factory in the rear.

Sounds like the easiest (least work) option is the bigger wheels....my studs are just even with the steel nuts when the wheels are tight? I'm guessing I need to look for Phones..though I prefer cookies. Are there really early offset 8" wheels?
