CV joints....
Guys, what experiences do you have with worn CV joints? Noises?, etc...
I'm planning on a rebuild very soon, just wondering...TIA.

Just did it - making some clicking noises, turned out to be the inner driver's joint.
I tore down/cleaned/re-greased/reinstalled and everything is much better. I reversed the direction and side to get some more mileage out of them, but I will have to actually replace them in the future.

I installed the 60k mile CVs off of my parts car last week. I added new boots and regreased them before installing them on the early halfshafts. Much, much quieter, and it eliminated shifter resonance. It's a decent and comfortable highway car now- I added 300 miles in one day last week.
Highly recommended on any car around 125-150k miles.

Once you're finished you might want to check the bolts after a thousand miles or so, they sometime come loose. Better yet, the bolts are about a buck each (paragon) if you want to replace them. bruce

Yeah, "retension" the bolts
Have the driver's side rear bearings going out now on one of the 83's - I picked up some new ones while I was visiting Paragon in Corpus the other day. Need to get some time to install them.

Removing, cleaning and rebuilding the CV joints is not difficult at all, just very, very messy. Get a big jug of degreaser before you start!

Had a CV go bad last year. I just installed a whole new axel. Very easy job.....once you learn about "Triple Square"/"Cheese head". Here is the mantra...SLOW...Steady....torque, will help you not to strip a bolt!
