Default Chip questions

Hey there I just recently got into a 85.5 2.5L NA and the previous owner had it chipped (he gave me the oem chip as well). As it is right now the car is running rich and I was wondering what I could do to solve this. I don't no much about the chip thats in there now but, am in the process of finding info. Would you guys recommend I keep the chip it has in there and try to fix the richness prob. or should I just put the oem chip back in?

I would say try it and see if it helps.
If it doesn't I would start looking at the Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR)

The big grey thing that is plugged into the left side of your airbox/filter. If you pull off the black plastic cover you will see a switch. This measures how much air is going past and tells the computer how much fuel to send to maintain a good air-fuel ratio (14:1 if I remember correctly). Yours may be on the fritz, causing your car to run rich. It may need to be cleaned or readjusted.

My 87 did not pass emission because it was running rich. I removed the Autothority chip, installed the OEM, and every thing was fine.

When I had rich running issues with my old 944, it was the fuel pressure regulator. But it was pretty bad - the engine would run very poorly when warm.

Hmm. . . thanks for all the info guys. I think that for now I'm just going to put the oem chip back in.
