Default suspension time...Bilstien HD or Koni Yellows

title says it all. I plan on upgrading my suspension, I belive they are the original boge shocks in the front which according to the car mileage have a good 180k on them. I also plan on getting the weltmeister 250# springs to go with them. Whats everyones take on the bilstiens? I am kind of leaning more towards the HDs because they have a lower sticker price.. lol... but if they suck I might as well just go with Koni Yellows. Also the springs say they drop the car 1.25", is that enough to warrant getting the geometry correction kit also? Id rather not lower it that far, but I also dont want it to be floating up in the air at stock ride height. Just trying to get everything tackeled before i take it in to get aligned.

I am a huge fan of the Bilsteins, and have run them on pretty much all my P-cars (with the exception of my 968, which is totally stock). I believe that they are superior to Konis, but lots of folks run Konis and love them, so I doubt you'll be disappointed, which ever way you go.

What year car are you running? It makes a difference...

Regards,

84 944. It seems to have koni reds in the rear, but i havent taken them down to confirm that yet. Turbo front sway bar with the kla brackets, 18 rear bar with serge drop links. Regular rubber bushings.

Bilstien all the way! The HDs can handle up to about a 300 lb spring up front so they should be good to go with the springs you want to use. I have them on my 924 and also my GTI. Im getting ready to order race shocks for the 024 and theyll be bilsteins as well. Monotube shocks are much better than the twin tube konis and they always last a lot longer for me as well.

Bilsteins sound good for the rears but can they be used for the struts? Would it be ok to have Bilsteins on the rear and the koni insert mod up front?

On late cars they dont make bilstiens for the front. I would try to keep the same front and back. For your 87 951 just use all konis.

I have the HD's on my 83. I ve got 220 Lb springs in the front and the ride is firm but not overly harsh. I liked the fact that the bilsteins had the large piston, which should be alot stronger than the smaller Koni piston.

Personally I would not mix and match like that. The bilsteins have totally different characteristics than the konis so Id choose one or the other. For the late cars it seems like Koni is the only choice unless you want the bilstein escort/firehawk stuff which isnt cheap.

Get konis - I just put a set on my 924S and they're amazing...handling is greatly improved without being harsh or bumpy

I like the bilstiens for their simple durable design as well, but what if I wanted to run 400 lb. springs? Someone above commented that they really only work well in the 300lb area. That could be a big issue...

Does it cost more to get a shock valved for 400lb springs from say Paragon or Pelican or w/ever? Or do they even offer something like that?

Do the torsion bars need to be re-indexed with the 250# 1.5in. lowering springs?
