Changing the upper tensioner pad isnt to big of a deal, just requires removal of the cam cover. Changing the cams on the other hand is basically a timing belt + removal of the cams. The sprockets on the cam's are not really serviceable by factory replacement means (unless you buy new cams = $$) but i believe RSBarn in PA can redo the sprockets on the 968 cams, so i assume they can do the same for the S cams. You only need worry about that if the sprockets are worn or have teeth missing.

Cool...
Clarks mentions something about the Jtube?
"Most of these failures can be attributed to failures of the J-Tube oil supply pipe or to the plastic guide rails on the tensioner."
Is this a hard part to replace and have you heard of it being a big failure point??
Thanks JC

The whole tensioner is going to run you ~$350, but you can get both pads now (944online...).
Hard to imagine what could go wrong with the J-tube pipeline, but who knows. It was ~$130, so I replaced the crush washers for it and used it as is. Looked pristine to me.

Oil pressure looks ok for idle.

The head alone is worth all of what you paid for the car, maybe more.

Best of luck.

Shipping a catback piece would be a pain. Drive up to CT and get it, I'll ask $100.

I wish, I'm asking $1500 for my whole, running S engine with about 70k miles on it- no serious takers yet.

the cam tensioner pads are available at Zims for $150 for the set. an easy job. I doubt you really need to change the chain...as long as the pads are there, it shouldn't be in bad shape at all. By the way, the chain is one piece, and the cams have to come out to change it...

Great Find!

ps...you are missing the 16 Ventiler badges!

--Good to know. From what I've read here and on Pelican, I'm a little surpirsed. I personally never tried to source one though, luckily.
