Default OEM Gauges

Ok, here is a quick question... is it possible to upgrade the OE gauges to something a little more modern and stylish??

This is very easy to do on an 82-85, but if you have an 85.5+ then not so much. The gauges are independant on the older 944s, but it's a solid block / cluster on the newer Porsches.

What really is modern for gauges? It seems most cars want or try to make their gauges look old fashioned (with a bit of indigo or fancy colored back-lighting).

Well I have an 86' 951... and I figured it would be an issue.. I could go for a little color and maybe some electronic.. just for that added touch.

Anyone know if there are newer looking faces for the early cars? Mine are all yellow :-X

And I think it could be cool to point at my speedo and be like LOOK WE'RE DOING 120!

Actually, the earlier Porsche 924 gauges ARE newer looking that the early 944 gauges. Take a look at some of the pictures on my web site:

www.PontiacPerformance.Net

I've been restoring my 84/944 over the past 3 months. Although I'm pretty much a stock nut, I've done a few subtle changes to give it a nicer touch. This is one of them, I put a combination of nicer 924 gauges in to replace the tacky 80s yellow gauges.

This is in my 84 Porsche 944 (which originally came with yellow gauges) but, as you can see... the gauges I have now are black faced with white lettering and red indicators.

I bought them all on eBay.

The gauges from a 924s work, I do not think early 924 gauges will work, I have replaced all of mine with those from a 924S and I am really happy with the look; I never like the yellow. The picture above looks like 924S gauges.
