Default hood and valance

A few pics of the glass hood that I bought used. The idiot shipped it unprotected and it needed enough repair work that I probably could have bought a new carbon unit! You can see the steel hood off to the right, I am painting both just in case the glass one does not hold up well. The red color is still only primer, no finish color on yet.

The euro valance also needed plenty of work.

Rhis engine needs 93 octane (US standards) to run properly. Euro 924's and 944's need 98 octane (Euro) minimum. 93 US = 98 Euro.

I did find a reasonable substitute for the black pinstripe seat fabric at the LeMans Fabrics place in NZ that is mentioned in a few upholstery posts. Seems like a good guy, I just have to make up my mind about the seats and then move ahead.
I keep looking around for a set, but they don't seem to exist here in the states, and shipping is expensive from Europe. I was thinking it might be cheaper to fly over and bring them back as luggage! Does anybody ship stuff over here regularly that could add them to their load for reasonable cost?

I had a PM to start a thread on my car, but this old one has been around so here is an update:

Euro engine was junk, big disappointment, so I bought an '86 parts car (sold by me a few years ago and wrecked) and am transferring the engine into the euro. This means several wiring changes, I sorted out all of the wires from the 14 pin connector on the '86 and got the ones needed into the 9 pin on the '82. The euro does not have an 02 sensor, so I needed to add that. Since I am hoping to use the '86 idle control valve, the wire that sends power to the old style heater element idle valve will be used for the 02 sensor heater.

I ended up finding a set of cloth seats, not the cool pinstriping, but nice enough.

I re-did the firewall insulation, new heater core, hoses, etc. All new AC stuff, a 924S condenser with some mods fits in well.

Cloth seats before I ripped out dash to do Ac and heater core stuff. At the time I thought I was going to have the dash re-done, but it was so expensive I put a plastic cover on it, it came out OK.

One bore was badly scored and the piston was also badly abraded. Water had been in the oil so the cam was also badly worn. It ran well! I saved the three good pistons. It could have been rebuilt, but with a parts car with a good engine along with other stuff for $800.00, it was an easy decision. Also this when premium gas was hugely expensive, so I figured at least being able to use reg gas was a good deal.

i like the idea of soda blasting, i had heard somethings about that for paint...however im concerned it might scratch up the windows, did you have any issues with that?

Looks like an awesome project. You'll have to weigh it when it's done!

I actually think that paint stripper/sanding discs might be as good as soda blasting. The stuff gets everywhere and it does cost a bit. Didn't bother glass.

Car is on the road and mostly sorted. Great car!!! I was a bit worried since there is so much 'bashing' of the early cars, but this thing is awesome. Drives as well as my '86, maybe better. I love the manual steering, not too much effort. Much better than the de-powered rack but maybe a bit less quick. Fine for a street car. The one major thing I did to help comfort was space out the steering wheel by almost 2". I have long legs, so It really helps the driving position. Still need to make extensions for the wiper and signal stalks.
