Default Early Offset Phone Dial (Different Offsets)

I have a set of early offset Phone dials and I found that one of the front wheels is about 1/2" further out than the other. Did they have 2 different offsets for the front early phone dials?

The offset changed in 87. The early offset is 23, later is 52 I think. There should be a size stamped inside of the back of the wheel.

I thought the '86 951 also had late offset, while the '86 NA were still early? The NA went to late offset with '87 models?

no. the problem seems to be that one wheel is sticks out about 1/2 more than the other in the front. Could that be the difference from 23 to 52 (which is more like an inch)?

I thought early had a front offset of 10mm, and rear was 23mm?
13mm is about 1/2"

I believe this has been discussed before, there seems to have been some inconsistencies with how the cars were put together so up front your suspensions is actually offset making it look like the wheels are offset side to side.

2.54cm is one inch so 30mm is 4.6mm larger than one inch. Damn its amazing what I remember from high school chemistry back in 81.

From reading the post, it sounds like you have 16" Phone Dials which come in 16x7 and 16x8 sizes for your 951. There could be a possibility that you have 3 wheels that are 16x8 and 1 that is 16x7 and that will explain the difference of 1/2". If you have an early offset car, you can't have a late offset wheel without a spacer.

I bought a set of 17x8 and 17x9 wheels with 235/45/17 and 255/40/17 for my BMW and didn't take a good look at the wheel sizes because they look almost the same for both sizes, just like the Phone Dials. I checked the tire sizes and 2 of them were 235's and 2 of them were 255's so I automatically assumed the wheels were staggered. Sure enough, I later found out that I had 3 rims that were 17x8 and 1 rim was 17x9. What a bummer so I got lucky and found one on Ebay and kept the other 17x8 as my spare.

when i put 8's all around on my car, i noticed the fronts stuck out further than the rear- or rather- the rears sat in further. I put 15mm spacers on the rear and it pretty much evened them out.

I read on some post a while back that some one was selling a set where one of the 7 up front had 23mm and the other had 14mm offsets. Anyone else ever come across this?
