Default Help: Lowering Springs???

I purchased a pair of H&R lowring springs from a guy who said they are 1.5" drop springs. I have the springs out beside the ones which i took out of the car, OEM. And they are about 4" shorter with no load.
Intstalled on the strut, free floating up on jacks, the drop spring sits free because of the longer shock throw... are these springs not what he said they are? Or is this normal? I'd tend to think not. Can anyone give me advise? Or assurance that this is what's supposed to happen when you lower the car? thanks.

Nyx,

It sounds like you have the springs installed on the struts and the struts mounted to the chassis. How does the car look when you put it on the ground?

Yes, the fact that the [unloaded] springs are 4" shorted than your factory springs is normal/common. These springs are probably in the 200 lb/in range [e.g. compress 1" for every 200 lbs of load] and are in the neighborhood of 50% stiffer than the OEM parts [~120 lb/in]. If Oddjob could chime in here, he probably has the factory spring rates in his vast archive of knowledge.

If your vehicle has a 1400 lb/1400 lb weight distribution front to rear, each front strut/spring supports ~700 lbs. While each 120 lb spring would compress ~6", the 200 lb spring would only compress 3.5". This is why the unloaded springs are of different lengths to begin with.

Let us know how things turn out.

Spring length un-compressed has almost nothing to do with the compressed length between two completely different sets of springs

The H&R springs are Stiffer, so they don't need to be quite as long

Completely normal

Enjoy your 1.5" drop it should settle around 2"

Just got it back on the ground guys, looks sicki. BUT the rear still needs to be drop'd A LOT... I doubt ill be able to get away with the eccentric.

Anyways, The car is out in the parking lot right now. I have concerns with the set up still but ive been working on the car now for about 10 hours now. Im spent.

PS. The 18" TT 2's are rubbing a little but its to dark to see, and the springs are 250's.

You'll get an inch at best out of the rear eccentrics. And getting those eccentric bolts loose is a real job in itself, to say the very least ! I did mine, had to split the nuts on the eccentrics and replace with new ones. Got almost a full inch drop, after it all settled in.

Like Bob said, you will need a very large breaker bar or a very powerful impact wrench to get the rear eccentric bolts loose. My 250 ft-lb Mac gun didnt work, had to break out of the heavy duty 500 ft-lb gun. Even then it took a few seconds of impact to break them loose. But like him i got about 1 inch (a bit under) of drop in the rear.

You get a 1" in the rear, are you using coil-overs in the front?

No, I stayed with the OEM struts up front in hopes that new springs would help.
The suspension wasnt shot before hand.

The car is sitting WAY to low with these springs, and i need to order up a pair of 1" Spaces for the front.

Ill try and get the rears to drop down, but i think i might have to index the bars... we'll see what happens after it setttles with the new rear shocks. Ill get some pictures hopefully later today.

thanks for the help, ill keep updating.
