Like most 944's of the mid eighties my drivers seat is torn at several of the seams.
My question is....has anyone here had much success with premade seat covers? I have located some on Ebay for what seems to be a reasonable price. $239.99 for both seats, as compared to the $275.00 per seat for re-upolstery at a local shop.

I was looking at those covers too a while back; I chose the upholstery shop and never looked back.
The seats look amazing, better than new is all I can say. The guy also replaced most of the seat foam and cleaned up the tilting hardware and stuff. The real cost of the job is finding the right color/type of leather and vinyl and then the time it takes.

Sorry to hijack a smidge, but I've got a quick question:
My seats are in quite nice condish, and I want to keep them that way. I have debated throwing covers on there and removing them for track events and shows, but I'm still not sure. Is the "Porsche Porsche Porsche..." cloth print still in circulation? B/c if it is, why bother w/ covers when I could just reupholster them in 10 years w/ no fuss? Now, if the "Porsche" cloth is not available, I'm thinkin' covers...

If you are going to recover them yourself I'd recomend at least getting some with known quality, inparticular the ones that Rennbay sells. I've seen a couple of seat sets covered with those and they are high quality pieces. They're vinyl though.

Ok, the shop I chose was Pro-Stitch on 17th St. in Wilmington, NC. They quoted me 275 per seat in the vinyl and 385 per seat for vinyl sides and back with real german leather seat inserts. It was 550 for full leather per seat.
My 944 seats are vynil and leather...so I'll probably opt for method #2 and have them re-done the same way they came.
