^^^ it happens more than you may think (it's happened 2 out of the 5 speeding tickets I've gotten).
Arizona passed a law a year or two ago paying cops double overtime to show up to court...from my experience it didn't do much.
The BEST thing you can do to improve your chances is to postpone your court date. Tell them anything -- but make it good. Best bet is to say you'll be out of the state/country and need the date postponed. Then, when your date finally arrives (four months in the future), the cop won't remember your ticket from Adam and most likely won't show up. If he DOES show up, tell the judge that there was heavy traffic and the cop's radar must have gotten confused, and that he picked your car because it sticks out like a sore thumb. The cop will not know how to counter and will spout something like, "I don't remember it, but the gun is designed to pick up the fastest-moving car."
My case was dropped in a heartbeat. Good luck

I just got mine last week. I travel up PA Rt. 100 to work and the speedlimit is 55MPH... I always do 65MPH and never got a hiccup form any cops. I was traveling with 2 other cars (two lanes) one infront in the right lane and one directly behind me in the left lane. As I come to and overpass where a group of cops were sitting clocking people and pulling them over one after another.
As all three of us pass under we all start to slow down... guess who got picked... ME. And my Porsche 944 is Gray!
I got nailed for 69 in a 55... according to my Speedo I was doing 65. The officer was some young guy and he said this was all part of operation "Smooth Operator"... WTF? $135.50 ticket, there goes my new rear tire fund...

Wow, I would consistently pull 80 in a 55 zone on my way to work in the 944 from September-January and never got caught for it, and that crossed 2 major intersections and took about 9 miles each way..
Everyone else does like 70 so I'm considerably ahead of them, yet no problems.

I'm telling you dude, ALWAYS fight it. Postpone it, and then say you were going 60 according to your car's speedo, which is actually 57 in real life. The cop must have gotten your car confused w/ the others traveling w/ you just because the others were a minivan and a PT Cruiser ![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
As long as you are very respectful to both the judge and cop, and are astute to point out flaws in the cop's defense, the judge HAS to rule in your favor.

Thats really cheap, I charge $300.00 to fight them here in Florida, but I agree, I would file a not guilty plea, MOST departments, give 10 over because of the speedometers in cars are not cal. then there is also the tire size that can make a diff in the speed, if the officer shows up you may want to see if he has a radar log, I am not sure of the laws where you are, BUT if he has everything in order you can usually plea and ask to have the points with held and that way your insurance should not go up. The key is if you contest the ticket DONT be an ***, most judges or hearing officers will work with you.
