Default car took a whiz...

alrighty... drove to restaurant... get out to smoke a cig while waiting on slow-*** friends... friend arrives, turn back, and I see a small river coming from under the turbo... curious, I touch it, it's slimy, it's sweet, and sure enough, it's coolant... but it was cold... it was a good 8 mile drive, so the coolant shouldn't be cold... I was parked on an incline with the top left of the car in the air... looked under the car, and definatley saw it dripping right behind the wheel, so I know it's coming from the overflow.

resevoir was warm... coolant lines were warm... yet the coolant on the ground was cold.... it definatly came from the overflow tube, I pulled it up and the end was a little wet... by this time, it had stopped dripping. after we were done, drove home, watching the temp like a hawk (never went more than a cm above the bottm mark, even when boosting) and I got home parked it on the driveway and no coolant leaked out. resevoir, like when at the restaurant, was still full...

no more drip, no more little stream of coolant... this happen often, or what should I watch for?

My guess would be your thermostat needs replacing.

how cold was the ground that the coolant fell onto? Because due to the high spread (and thus surface area) of the coolant on the ground, it's entirely plausible that warm coolant can cool on cold asphalt/concrete in just a few seconds time.

...just a thought on why it was cool...

prob burped and forced some hot coolant into the tank- pushing some cool coolant from the resevoir out onto the ground- if your tank is too full or your cap is weak that will happen.

Could also be the coolant tank has ovaled out. The hole where the cap goes on can warp thus never letting the cap seal. People replace the cap and more cold coolant spills out. The way to test it is to remove the tank from the car. Then put some water in it and put the cap on. Turn upside down and watch for leaks. If it leaks you need a new tank. I had this happen on 1 or 2 of my 944's.

Yeah, I saw it dripping... I'll check the tank itself, and the cap. the thermostat is newish... done within the past 10K. for some reason, I didn't check the cap. may have been loosish.

I say this, because at the end of last season, I had a weird leak on the ground after a session. Car never got hot, but I noticed a lower level in the overflow tank when cold, and if i recall, a way high level when hot. I ran some nontrack miles and noticed the overflow level getting lower...never got overheated. I wanted to have a look inside..grabbed the cap and it was loose already. Did not put any real miles on the car after that, but seemed to make sense to me.

my cap was loose... topped it off with a little distilled water, and refitted the cap.. all seems to be well...
