Default blown head gasket

Yep as the title states what a wonderful way to start the spring weather. As if on a gorgeous sunny day a few weeks ago I get the car out of storage and get her all warmed up hop in the driver seat push in the clutch and bam straight to the floor wasn't enough. Well got the clutch fixed this past weekend went to take the car to work this morning crank her over she starts but is missing and white smoke is coming out the back. Oh well thats the joy of owning these cars right? I can honestly say I had a good 40k and 4 years of trouble free driving until now. She was due for a t-belt/waterpump anyways... rant off..

Are you absolutely sure you just lost the head gasket? That's awfully low mileage....unless it's been overheated before.

Just to talk about it being early to go - my 86 hg went bad (or something that was giving me bad compression) and I only have 86k mi on it.

Dan - you know more mechanically about these cars than me, but that's what I thought when my '86's oil cooler seals went. Exact same symptoms. Do you have a pressure tester?

Keep us posted bud!

Do a leak down test and cooling system pressure test before you condem the HG....

Hey Chris,
Long time.. hows the 924?

Yep pulled the head off and its the head gasket alright, failed on the #4 cylinder. There was coolant sitting right on the top of the piston. What a suprise! I did some re-search and it seems to be a common problem on our cars to fail on the #4 cylinder. I guess Lindsey has a steam kit that will help prevent this in the near future that im looking into. Thanks for the advise guys! Time to upgrade...
