How long do you guys think I would get away with using headlight type lights in the driving light area in the turbo bumper, deleting the whole headlight assembly and using the full carbon piece from gt racing? I'm in CA, so I think it'll be 3-4 hours.

Yeah, I think the CHP folks would see that as easy money. IIRC, lights have to be a certain height off the ground. Mike (MPD47) I think has his between the fog light area and the headlights. Not sure where his thread on that is.

You can upgrade to HID lights. These have 1/2 the current draw of H4's

WEB SITE FOR HID

I upgraded my disco with no problems. May do the 951 if I am going to keep it ... mulling over a 2000 Boxster S ....

Jaak, which HID upgrade kit did you use for your 944?

(Nice turbo girl there, just need Mario behind her smiling).

The harness (which you need to run brighter than stock) is about $130, I think e-codes with stock bulbs is around...60? You can do only that and have better lighting if you aim. If you want to run anything higher than stock wattage the harness becomes required. Unless you want to melt the wires in your car...your call.

Low on project cash and confronted with loads of wiring issues, I was going to build my own H4 wiring harness but a Jeep friend of mine turned me on to this place: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...l#HarnessTypes You can pick up a harness for $45. Mine just came in on Saturday. Item came two days after paypal cleared. Other than the bright yellow sheathing it came in, it is solid. I will cover the yellow with some black friction tape. I plan on getting one for the Jeep too .

That's a great article, Darren. I must have missed it last year but I'm glad it came back to life! The lighting on the 968 is already relayed and bright, but the 944 is in dire need of lighting service.

Actually, a couple of years ago I put Sylvania Silver Stars on the 944 (and I didn't want to spring for the Iceshark kit... stupid) and the lighting became a whole lot better. I'll probably keep the bulbs and try a harness/relays and see how much better it gets.

And let me add something technical to the article:
I often forget to flip up the headlights when washing the car, and the dirt on the headlights just stays there and accumulates. Go out there and wipe clean your headlights. The difference will be night and day...

Thanks Arash, and I agree with that bit about the washing of headlights!

How do I get this in the DIY area, I wonder.

I just finished making my own relay harness with sylvania silverstars. Wow, the relay harness is so worth doing. It was amazing how much brighter it was..
