Default Rennbay ball joints...

just found out the boot popped off of mine, and the grease went bubye... trying to put the boot back on, but the damn pressure fit won't agree with me. control arm is on the car as of right now, and I'm planning on putting it back on, and getting it to stay somehow, and refilling with grease to fix my problem... if that doesn't work, then I'll look at my other options.

but, HOW THE HELL do you keep these boots on? do you wrap em with bailing wire and effectively clamp it on with it? I need to fix this, and soon...

If I remember right, the boot doesn't hold the grease. My boot pops off when you move the ball joint too. The grease is down under the zerk fitting and under the joint. If you don't have grease under your boot, I don't thinks that's a big deal.

The boots hold grease in them. You should put grease around the base of the ball pin then slide the boot over the top. Push it all the way down so that the bottom of the boot goes over the retaining ledge on the arm. When it is there, take your fingers and press on the flat section of the boot next to the ball pin. Press real hard and it will "pop," turning the flat spot to face the ball pin and expelling any extra grease at the same time. Its not all that hard and the boots stay on quite well when you install them this way.
We have OEM "type" boots here but they are a major pain to put on and tend to rip quickly.

well, I managed to get it in place without removing the control arm. not going to put any wire on there, and it seems to have seated rather nicely now.

Travis, thanks for the advice, and if my problem isn't fixed, expect an order for a rebuilt control arm...
