Default 944 made cheaper than the 924?

Hey guys,

Don't mean to insult anyone, but I happened to notice something about my car, VS some parts I've ordered on eBay. As I've mentioned before, the PO painted the entire interior of my car with black spray paint. So everything had to be replaced (including the gauges). I guess he didn't like the original brown interior).

So, with that said, I'm "upgrading" to the red needle / white lettering gauges of the later Porsche 924s. I ordered a set of gauges from a 924 with the complete wiring harness and everything.

I noticed that when I compare it to the stock wiring harness that existed in my car originally, the wires on the older Porsche 924 harness are nearly twice the thickness. The shielding is thicker, and the boots that they've installed on all the connectors are also at least three times as thick. THis is really the only thing I have to compare it to at this point, but what is the reason that the Porsche 924 wires appear to be of significantly higher quality? Was Porsche cost-cutting when they released the 944?

Thanks!

You said a later 924, I'm assuming a 924S? Considering that those ran up until '88, and your 944 is an '84, it's understandable why the wiring might be different. Lots of spiffy electronics underwent changes over the course of those years, it wasn't just the 944 that got changed around MY86.

Oh, I'm really not sure. I just know that the gauges came from a 924. The oil pressure gauge says BAR instead of the oil symbol. I assume that means it's one of the older ones? (or perhaps from Canada or another country).

Just curious...
