Default S2 power

At the risk of starting one of the I NEED MORE POWA threads... Do you think an extra 50-60 crank hp is obtainable out of the s2 motor without doing a major overhaul of the internals and keeping it naturaly aspirated?

Discuss...

Do a search on 968forums.com. There are claims of increases in that range, but I can't remember the details.

Not without teaking the engine (cams, air/fuel mix, timming advance). Headers (Stal) will get you 15 hp +/- I have 203-207 at the rear wheel with PCA legal mods. BTW, a cone air filter took my HP down on the engine dyno, stock was 5 hp better than aftermarket cone.

I'm glad you posted this Eric. I've been telling people for years not to go cone filter unless it's routed outside the engine compartment, and they just keep looking at me like I'm crazy... You, and many others have proven this fact over and over. Sucking in hot air is bad.

I have seen a lot of S2 dyno sheets with different mods. The biggest single HP generating mod seems to be exhaust from what I have seen so far.

Russell

what about a intake under the header panel (like i believe jgporsche is doing) is the air under there cold enough?

I was thinking headers, 2.5in exhaust, maxtronic w/maxtune, and a light cam change(keeping it streetable)

This is what I'd say. I guess retrofitting variocam helps a bit.

Port and polish the head/intake at a reputable shop...drop your cat if your emissions allow it (mine would fail even worse than it did last time ) and put some free-flow headers on it...

Then maybe put one of those spiffy chips in and see how it goes.

AFM/MAF swap?

YES, it is cold enough.... I lost over 20HP at the wheels, by deleting my intake setup and putting on a cone filter.

40-50HP is easily obtainable....

10-15 stahl header
8-10 S2MAX chip
10-15 Milledge Cams
10 MAF conversion
10-15 from a GOOD exhaust (i gained 12whp from mine and still had more to make)

This actually seems to work pretty well for an NA car, obviously on a turbo there is no room there. I've seen some real creative routing on turbo cars, wheel well, behind the left headlight sectioned off. Any way you can get cool air coming in helps. For the life of me I can't understand why someone doesn't make an airbox/snorkel system like stock that flows better, that would be best in my opinion.

Russell

TERRIBLE advice!

Porting the head is not a good idea. The ports are ridiculously large to begin with. A simple polish/smoothing job is great. For these heads, less is better. A good valve job, and some 968 intake valves.

just deleting the cat doesn't help. you need your exhaust to have the right amount of flow velocity... having certain restrictions like a high flow cat, work VERY well for more TQ.

Go to Home Depot, buy some 4" PVC pipe, cut off your snorkel and glue the pipe into place...

Well i just finished cutting up an Acura intake i got off evilbay for like 25 bucks and ran the intake down into the header, it was really easy. Now i just need to find a filter that will fit under the header panel.

Jesse- what exhaust are you running? I'm going to try and make a custom 2.5 to replicate the SFR one. With a deleted cat and the borla muffler.
