Default 8.5" rim with a 45mm offset - How wide

a tire should i be able to fit?

The pilot sports I had on the 8.5 boxster crabs rubbed the left wheel well.

I would be putting the 255 victoracer 700s on whatever wheel i get.

I guess I should have qualified the question with "without rubbing the left inner fender", hence, the mention of the offset.

i wouldnt go wider than 255 personally- 255 is perfect fit for a 9" rim, my front 8" rims have 235's, im running 245/45/16 on 8's all around.

I have the tires. they rears are 255s. I dont want them to rub the left fender. does anyone know if a 8.5" rim with a 45mm offset will "probably"/"probably not" rub?

is your car early or late offset? If you have early offset, then the 45mm wheel will sit in and you may even need a 6mm spacer to make it come out- if you have late offset they will prob be sticking out the wheel well since you need 52-55 mm offset.

Are these 16 or 17" tires? Why are you looking at 45 off-set? What is te ide height? I have used 265/45/16 VictoRacers on 8" phone dials with 52 offset in the rear on my 91 S2 with no rubbing. Camber is -2.4 R.

I also have run 255/50/16 Hoosiers on 8 F and 9 R D-90 with 52 offset with no rubbing. Again I have -2.5 to -3.0 camber on the track only car.

Before using R-compound, I used 255/17" Kumho MX on OE Cup II wheels with 55 off-set and no issues. I think that the off-set was less than what I have now becasue the car was driven to the track. The ride height was stock US at that time.

I hope this helps.

it is for my 88 turbo. the wheels are ROH, I called the distributor in NY and he told me they are 17" 8.5 wide with a 45mm offset.

i think 45 is not enough, and i need 50 to 55 on a 8.5 rim, hence my posting this thread.

perhaps he is off on his number.

is it agreed that if i am using 255s which give me the same 25" ride height that i need more than 45mm offset?

here is his ebay ad

For an 8.5" wheel that should be plenty of offset. My BBS wheels are 10" wide with only 47mm offset and I run 275/40 RA-1s without rubbing. Lot of camber, but still.

Front or rear? I have 17x8.5's on the rear of my car. Widest you can go safely is 255. I'm using 255/40/17's.

So if i am calculating correctly your wheels stick out 3/4" less 2mm more than the 8.5 45mm offset would stick out?

Then why did the 8.5 ??mm offset boxster crab wth 255 pilot sports rub on the left side so that i had to grind the lip (the stolen S2, not this car)?

Anyone know the offsets of the mille miglia cup rims? I think i have 17x9 on the rear. may be 8.5. with 255 pilot sports on the turbo and no rub.

I don't know Tom. Something was wrong with your car maybe?

Boxster 8.5" wheels are ET50. I know they work perfectly on the back of my fathers 951S with 255/40 ContiSportContact3's. Fit same as 17x9 ET55 wheels that lots of others use.
