easy enough task, engine management is the hard part
but with that new Maxtronic system from Berry i think all those things can be dialed in.
you'll get alot of nay sayers, but i really dont understand where they are comming from.

I'm picking up my 944S engine for the basis on my new turbo setup tomorrow. Granted, I'm replacing everything on the engine and going with low comp pistons and new rods.
Can it be done though? Absolutely.

it would also depend on how much boost you want to run, and what sort of gas you will feed the car.
there are kits for my daily driver (a 2.0 vw) from Neuspeed that offer a 7 psi supercharger with a warrenty. it runs without an intercooler and premium gas. The car has a 10:1 compression ratio and there are many satisfied customers with this kit (granted its not tire pealing crazy power, but just to show that everything is alot more achievable than people think)

If you knew the car/how I drive/the amount of boost I like to run you'd know they are absolutely necessary. I think doing anything FI on anything above 9.5:1 CR is a waste of time and money.

The new BMW 335i has a 10.2:1 compression ratio though, and they manage 8.5 psi
But yeah, with stock rods/pistons (and no direct fuel injection) you might be okay with 3-5 psi.. Probably not worth the time and money as Mike said.

This is of course, due to the fact that Mike runs approximately 500 million PSI in his cylinders. His engine block is custom made from machined unobtainium, and he has pistons that travel within .0001 nanometer of the valves. He also runs 6000-octane premium space-shuttle-racing fuel.
There WAS a Turbo S model, you know, sold in the RoW market...I'm sure the stock motor could handle it but you'd want to change your rods at the least to allow for lower compression.

That made my day. The Turbo S was also sold in the US.. like billthe3 said, not a turbo'd S, but rather a Turbo with more power and better handling/braking.

My friend is a creative mechanic...he fabricates everything himself. If I do anything I'll buy a 951.
I was just curious...I'd be interested to hear how the S turbo project goes though...
