Default Oil pressure zero...

Been looking at a 85.5 NA project car...the PO had the oil P drop to zero. He shut it off and took it to a local mechanic. The car has been there ofr 3 years as the fellow has no money.

If I can pick it up CHEAP...what would the likely cause be? Oil pump? A clog?

Lemme know guys.

If oil pressure tanked to zero with no associated noise or issues, try replacing the $30 oil px sending unit for a quick, cheap, and probably due repair anyway. If it fixes your problem, you're golden. If not, only out 30 bones and an hour of your time.

Whether you pick it up "cheap" and then fix, or tell them to replace the unit and deal with the possibility of that fixing the problem and thereby paying more for the car is a gamble you'll have to decide for yourself. But I say, if there was no associated noise, it's probably not the oil pump.

Good luck,
Matt

Could be anything, but you have to assume that the engine would need to be rebuilt. That should go in your favor, since the price of acquisition should be low.
