For autocross Id go for the V700s. The RA1s can be hard to get up to operating temperature.

falken azenis rt-615 according to grassroot magazine are the #1 autoX tire.also the qualify for street class road racing in SCCA.200 treadwear + only @ $400 for set of 17's.kumho's are 50 tread wear,+$800+.Toyo's 100 tread wear $800+.Check out www.vulcantire.com .I doubt you will be disappionted. If your experienced driver looking for the last little bit of traction. Go w/the r compounds. If your a newer driver looking to be alittle better tire. Save some money buy the cheaper tire.Use the rest of the money to get seat time.thats the only thing that truly makes you faster!!!!!!!Then go to R compounds ,then and only then will you see the benefits of the more expensive tires.Again unless you have unlimited $.

i ran my victos for two years of autox (prob 20+ autox's) and three DEs and they chorded on the very last session of the third DE- stayed nice and sticky the whole time. Keep your pressures good and they will last awhile.

I am somewhere in between. I have been autocrossing for 2 years. Started my first year on streets then went to a used set of victoracers. Used a set of Kumho Escsta v710 last year. Just got a new turbo and am planning on a set that I can autocross and take on the track for DE.

I know. The driver is me . I feel very comfortable autocrossing on the r counpund. I was entertaining the idea of using the r-counpunds on the track last year for DE but decided to wait till this year. AT the last DE I spun a rod bearing on my 944S and since then have picked up a 951S. I have decided that I do not know the car well on the track and feel it is bettter to continue to use the street tires until I get used to it. I hope to be on the r-compounds by the end of the season.

By the way, I do have a set of used Kumho V710 for sale.

The falkens are a great street tire. Im using them on my 924 for DEs, I just wish they came in a 225 45/50 15, but their 205s are just as wide as a lot of 225s Ive seen. FWIW SCCA doesnt have any street tire classes for road racing. They do have a street tire class in autocross though. The closes thing to a street tire class in road racing is improved touring where they require a DOT legal tire, but all R comps are DOT legal so thats what everyone runs.

Dan,
Sorry for being Devils advicate,Everyone told me not to buy R conmpounds when I started.I didn't listen.I wasted ALOT of money.Got quicker faster using street tires because I could hear them. The problem w/ asking advice is everyone has their own opinions. The more experience the more the opinionated one becomes.Less likely to ask a question like this.I meant no disrespect.

I use the 700's for autoX, they work very well. I'm going to the 710's when these wear out. I don't know anyone that autoX on Toyo's. The Falken Azenis especially the "old" model Azenis are pretty amazing street tires for autoX, I had them on my Scirocco for awhile. But for the Porsche I'll autoX on a decent set of R compounds.

For DE use RA-1 are better than Victoracers. I have used both on my 944 spec car. Before we went to the spec toyo I ran victoracers and loved them. Then I put the toyo's on and ran the same lap times and got twice the life. Sold on Toyo's after that. Ultimatly I think the Victoracer is slightly faster, but does not last as long. So for DE the RA-1 is the way to go. For autocross I'd probably do the victoracers because it takes longer to get heat in the RA-1 and also being timed grip is more important.

How do you think the Toyo's would do compared to a street tire with respect to performance? also how do you thinkg the ra-1 would hold up using them for autocross?

At least one entire season from A/X use only. Heck I get 1/2 a season from track use (7-9) DAYS.
